Chemical peels and facials can improve the skin's appearance. In this treatment we start with a deep cleanse, a manual or product based exfoliation, and a masque. A chemical peel solution is then applied which can cause minor peeling revealing fresh skin underneath. The skin is then smoother and less wrinkled than before. We also use enhancers, serums and moisturizers that are based on your concerns, skin type, and skin condition.

Chemical peels  and facials can also be done on the face, neck, or hands. They can be used to:

After a chemical peel skin is temporarily more sensitive to the sun so it is important to wear sunscreen every day. It should say "broad-spectrum" on the label, meaning it protects against the sun's UVA, UVB, and Blue Rays. It should also be a chemical and physical sunscreen above SPF 50. Limit your time in the sun, especially between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., and wear a wide-brimmed hat.

Who Is a Good Candidate For a Chemical Peel or Facial?

Anyone wishing to have skin cellular turnover to reveal fresh, bright, and beautiful skin.

Skin sags, bulges, and more severe wrinkles do not respond well to chemical peels. They may need other kinds of cosmetic or surgical procedures such as laser resurfacing, a faceliftbrow lifteyelid lift, or soft tissue filler (collagen or fat). We are happy to help determine the most appropriate type of treatment for you.

Before You Get a Chemical Peel or Facial

Tell your technician if you have a reoccurring history of scarring or cold sores. Before you get a chemical peel or facial tell your doctor, nurse, or esthetician any health concerns. They may ask you to stop taking certain drugs and prepare your skin by using other medications or special skin care products. They may also prescribe antibiotics or antiviral drugs.

We will work with you to determine the depth of your peel. This decision depends upon the condition of your skin and your goals for treatment.

How Chemical Peels Are Done

You can get a chemical peel in our office in 30 minutes to 1 hour. It's a quick and painless procedure.

The professional who does your peel will first clean your skin thoroughly. Then he or she will apply one or more chemical solutions -- such as glycolic acid, trichloroacetic acid, salicylic acidlactic acid, or carbolic acid (phenol) -- to small areas of your skin. This creates controlled peeling letting new skin shine through.

During a chemical peel, most people feel a non painful sensation that lasts about five to ten minutes. Facials have only a mild sensation in some cases.

What To Expect After the Chemical Peel

Depending upon the type of chemical peel, a reaction similar to sunburn occurs following the procedure. You'll need to avoid the sun for several days after since your new skin will be fragile. Peeling may occur and usually ends within three to seven days. Mild peels may be repeated at two week intervals until you achieve your desired look. This will be discussed with you on your first visit and we can assist you in making a plan to get the results you hope for.

For people with a history of herpes outbreaks there is a small risk of reactivating cold sores. We can prescribe medication to prevent or treat that.
